Summer Resources

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for your support, teamwork, and encouragement this year!  We have had an amazing year with such a bright and sweet group of students! May God bless you with a summer full of great memories and relaxation with your new 5th grader!

As this year comes to a close, we wanted to take a brief moment to attach a few important concepts you may want to review with your child through the summer. With a long break ahead, it is important to keep these concepts fresh in order to start the next year strong.

Math- It is important that students know their multiplication/division math facts by heart. Online games/apps are a good way to practice.

Reading- Keep up the great work with reading at least 20 minutes a day. Take a few trips to your local library or bookstore to pick out interesting books.
*Use the attached questions and answer sheets as a way to check your child’s comprehension and understanding.*

Strategy Notebooks- Check out the math and reading strategy notebooks that your child brought home this week. It is a great resource to review concepts that we have learned this year!

Great Educational Websites (with minimal ads):

·        Funbrain.com – great resource for reading and math (including games)
·        Softschools.com – has resources for math, language arts, science  There is a great 4th grade reading comprehension with quiz!
·        MathPlayground.com – fun resource for math games and activities
·        CoolMath4kids.com – math games and resources
·        Scholastic.com/teachers/story-starters – a fun way to write stories
·         ARbookFinder.com – This site helps parents know what grade level a book is.  Type in the name of the book to make sure it’s the right level for your child. (Ex. 4.1= 4th grade 1st month, 4.5= 4th grade 5th month)
