October 3

Hello Everyone,
I have a lot to tell you this week, so hang on to your hat!

Spelling:  This is a review week, so the workbook has a bit of everything.  The test is a different format.  There are only 20 words.  The test is the “fill in the bubble” format of the standardized test for 4th grade. It is a good way to learn how to do the tests for the spring.
Art: Mrs. Wade is teaching us about some art Masterpieces this year and a few of them involve paint!  Please send an extra-large old shirt for the kids to keep in their lockers for those lessons.
Pledge:  We are going to be doing the Pledge of Allegiance on Spirit 105.3 on October 20, in the 6 am hour! There is an additional piece of this that is a secret.  See the email from the CCA office on Friday.
Bible Verse tests:  I am changing the tests to be on Mondays.
World Vision:  CCA supports two children through World Vision. We collect an offering at chapel each week.  Our purpose is to help bring life giving and life changing support to these two children.  I hope to teach our children the blessing of generosity! We will collect the money at any time during the week and take it to chapel on Tuesdays.
Carnival:  The carnival is coming up- October 26!  We have ½  hour slots to help with our game from 5:30-8:00.  Please email me if you can help or sign up on the clip board outside the door to our room.
PassPort:   We have an adjustment in this month’s assignment.  First, an explanation:  Last year somehow several grades were out of sync with the way the levels should work.  Therefore this year we need to catch up. In the fourth grade we will be testing on levels 1-4.  This means that the students will need to learn both levels 3 and 4 as new information.  We will focus on level three in class early in the month.  Therefore level three should be reviewed at home and level four   taught/learned at home as homework.  (New families that have never been part of PassPort please concentrate on levels 1-3- those will be the ones that the new students will be tested on).

Homework:

Spelling: Lesson 6 workbook and test are both Friday.  We will be testing in the new format described above.
Math:  We will practice 4’s and reverse this week.   Written quizzes are each Friday.
Social Studies:  Explorers! Do you know who discovered your cinnamon?  We will soon.
Science: Simple machines with load, effort and work.
Reading- Average 20 minutes per day. Please help your student find three events and what happened “ because of that” in their home reading.    The reading calendar is one of the student’s reading grades. The October calendar went home last week.
Bible:  Deuteronomy 31:6

Upcoming Events:

October 16/17   Professional Development NO SCHOOL
October 24         School Carnival
