October 28

Dear Parents,
We had our kick-off for the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox drive on Tuesday.  I have some of the cardboard boxes, that the Samaritan’s Purse provides, here in class.  The kids can bring one home if you’d like one to use.  A regular shoe box or a plastic box will be fine as well.  Please remember to include the $7 to help with the shipping.  If you go online to donate you can follow your box and they will let you know where it ends up!  This fund raiser is dear to my heart because my sister and her husband work for Samaritan’s Purse in a small town outside of Nairobi, Kenya.
Our school supports two students through World Vision.  Please help your student develop a generous spirit by helping them remember to bring an offering for WV.  We collect it at the chapel on Tuesday, but they may bring it anytime.
It was sure nice to see so many of you at the carnival. It was a lot of fun and a terrific alternative to Halloween for our CCA families.  Please remember that the students are not allowed to wear a costume to school on the 31st .

Homework:
Spelling:  Lesson 8.  We are looking at the short “o” sound.   Workbook and test are both on Friday
Math:  We will continue to work on 4’s and add 5’s this week.
Passport:  The test is the 31st.  We reviewed the counties with our class atlases this week, but more practice is necessary.  Remember it is 25% of the students’ grade for social studies.
Reading:  Keep them reading.  The calendar is due at the end of the month + two days, so by Monday, November 4th at the latest.  As an ongoing guideline, please help them find books that they will enjoy, are at a comfortable reading level, and that they will read from beginning to end.  If they abandon a book part way through the time still counts toward their reading goal, but I’d like to see them all find books that they enjoy reading all the way through.  As you know reading is the key to all future school work!
Bible Verse test Monday.  I Timothy 1:17

Scheduled Field Trips: I have made plans for three field trips.  Please let me know, via email, if you’d like to chaperon.  IF there is a cost, the chaperone needs to pay their own way.  Some trips are quite popular. Please let me know right away if you’d like to help out.
November 26:  We will be going to the Lacey Library.  Since our school library is out of service this year, the students will need to be familiar with the public library to find books to help with their Science Fair research papers.  No cost
February 12: We will be going to a terrific presentation about the human body called Bodyolygy.  It will be a very good review of our health unit about the different body systems.   The cost for chaperones is $6- payable to Linda at the front desk.
February  Olympic Junior Programs- “Four Score and Sever Years Ago”.  The date is not finalized.

Upcoming Events
October 31 Passport Testing
November 7: Picture retake day.

here at CCA. Please invite any family or friends that are military folks.
November 14- Decades Day- Plan now so we can keep our Perfect Participation “Honor” goingJ.

Blessings,

Bible Theme this Week:  God is with us everywhere.
Deuteronomy 31:6  BE strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will NEVER leave you or forsake you.      Test is Monday

Dear Parents,
Thank you for your quick response to my appeal for people to help in shifts at our booth at the carnival and the school’s plea to be peanut free to help some children with nut allergies!  You are much appreciated. Please remember to send a small (10-12”- no bigger, please!) pumpkin to school by the 21st.
Our school supports two students through World Vision.  Please help your student develop a generous spirit by helping them remember to bring an offering for WV.  We collect it at the chapel on Tuesday, but they may bring it anytime.
Homework:
Spelling:  Lesson 6 is a review week.  I will not send a separate list this week.  All of the words are reviewed in the lesson.  The test is in the standardized test format (fill in the bubble on the form) and is 20 words long. Test is Monday
Math:  We will continue to work on 4’s this week.
Passport:  The test is the 31st.  One of the kids asked me for another copy of the map.  I found one- who was it?
Quizlet: I have started an account on Quizlet.  I have four sets of flashcards on my site.  One is the bones that we just finished and another is states and capitals that we will begin using in a few weeks.  If you’d like to check out my four sets, or the thousands of other ones that are available,  go to quizlet.com.   My measly four sets are available when you sign on:
vwilson919    and   ccafrogs4.  The whole site is quite amazing and will boggle your mind with the vast array and range of difficulty that is available.
