October 11 News

Hello,              Welcome to my Friday Letter on WednesdayJ.    It has been a fun, although short, week.  Art last week was patterns, please come and Peruse our Perfectly Painted Patterned Pumpkins in the hall by the drinking fountain.

Spelling: Lesson 5 ( short i)  The test and workbook will be due Friday, October 20.  The workbook and list went home last Friday.

Math  Our next timed test, 4’s multiplication and division, will be October 20.  They will complete a quiz of just the 4’s and then 1-5’s mixed together.  It is very important that the students have a quick recall of the facts when we get into 2 digit multiplication and long division.  I sent home a chapter two review paper today. Please look it over when they are finished.  It is our only homework, other than the usual things.  We will have our Chapter 2 test on Tuesday of next week.

Science We are continuing our look at Simple Machines.  I hope you have been hearing about it at home. The assignment each day is to find an example of the machine at home. Today’s focus is gears.

Writing  .    We have finished our All About Me newspapers.  The students did a good job.  They are also hanging in the hall.

CCA’s Carnival is Friday, November 3rd and we need your help to make this event a success. Opportunities are available to bring in donations, work at your child's classroom booth, help out with food sales or be part of the setup or cleanup teams.  These volunteer hours maybe used to help satisfy your stewardship or multiple child discount hours. Thank you! Click the link below to sign up to help at this fun family event.

September 29 letter to parents

Dear Parents,   Here are a few details about the week coming up.  We are going to do a small project with small pumpkins- please send in a small pumpkin next week.  Then, please come and pursue our Perfectly Painted Patterned Pumpkins!
Spelling: Lesson 4   (long E) is included with this letter. Miss Kara has provided a cover page for everyone that lists all of the words in spelling patterns. I have sent home a Spelling Dictionary that needs to be used for this week’s workbook pages.  It needs to be kept at home for future workbook assignments.
Math   Lessons about addition and subtraction of whole numbers.   Our next timed test, 3’s multiplication and division, will be October 6.   I try to keep the tests low-key but they do need to be fairly rapid with their recall.  We get into double-digit multiplication and long division later in this year.  Being able to recall multiplication and division facts quickly is imperative.  This is an ongoing assignment.
Writing   We are doing a writing project that is a newspaper about themselves.  Please send a picture of your student.  Ask them what the feature article is about (It should be a trip or activity that they did this summer or earlier).  If you have a picture of that activity it would be great, if not, just a picture of your student.  Please send it in next week.  Thank you
Science We are beginning a unit on simple machines.  Don’t be surprised if simple things in your house become “simple machines.”
Music   Mrs. Fennel is thinking about starting an instrumental group called Ukes and Strings as part of CCA’s Christmas performance.  If your student knows how to play a stringed instrument or would like to learn how to play a ukulele, watch for more information from her.
