October 1

October 1, 2012
Dear Parents,
I have a lot of information for you this week, so hang on to your hat!
*First, we welcome Mr. Kennish today.  He will be with us for 16 weeks and I know this is a win-win situation for our class. If you missed Mr. Graham’s email letter last week just let me know and I can get you another copy.
* We will be going to a wonderful presentation called “Bodyology” on February 12.  I need four parents to accompany us.  It is in Bellevue so it will be an all day trip.  The cost for parents is $7.  Please let me know if you would like to come along.  Check it out: www.slimgoodbody.com.
*Will you pray for us and all of CCA?  Mom’s in Touch is looking for a mom (sorry, dads!) to help organize our school’s group.  Please let the office know if you are interested in attending or helping with this ministry.  We are very dependent on the faithful prayers of our families.
Homework for this week is:
Spelling lesson 4:  pages 13-16 workbook due Friday, the test is also Friday.  I am changing our procedure and we will now look at the first two pages of the lesson on Monday so that all the pages can come home in the Monday folder.
Bible verse: 2 Timothy 2:15
Reading - 20 minutes a day- If you have a reluctant reader, please help him or her find a book that is at a comfortable reading level and that he or she enjoys. We are starting our “Book It” program today.  See the attached information and go celebrate with your reader at the end of the month! Also, I sent home a scholastic book order last week.  Students with a lot of books in their rooms read more- and reading is the key to soooo many thingsJ.
Math Facts:  3X.  We will continue to focus on the 3’s this week. Please help your child test on the 3X’s as well as the
X 3’s ( ie  3X5 as well as 5X 3.  Math facts mastery is imperative. It is 30% of the student’s grade in math.   Our first “real” test of the 3’s is Thursday.  We use triangle shaped “fact family” flash cards in class to practice with . These are available at Amazon and local stores (certainly School Daze and I’m sure I’ve seen them several other places.)
Passport:  October PassPort maps went home today.  The next test is October 25th.  The countries are less familiar than last month and will require quite a bit of home study time.

Blessings,

Mrs. Wilson
