February 10

 Dear Parents,
I must apologize.  I published the wrong time for our Grandparents Day Celebration.   The invitations that the students brought home also had the wrong time.  The Correct TIME is 12:45-1:55.  I am looking forward to meeting my student’s grandparents.  I know that a grandparent’s contribution to a child’s life is priceless.
You may have heard that we are doing a unit of study about the Olympics!  Since the Sochi Olympics started this week, please have your student watch bits and pieces as the week goes on. Particularly, please let them watch the event of their chosen athlete.  I know the network will only show the main competitors and maybe NOT our chosen athlete, but watching will give the students a sense of what it is all about.  This month is also Valentine’s Day.   I sent home a list of all of the students in our class.  Of course, no one is required to participate, but if you’d like to send Valentines, please send one for each of the student in the class.
Homework:
Spelling:  Lesson 21.  We will be looking at homophones and homographs this week.  Test and workbook are due
     Thursday this week.
Math:  Please continue to work with your student on math facts. We are testing division facts.   Keep working on facts.   Mastery of facts is so important that 25% of their grade in math is math fact mastery.   A  Ken Ken is included with this missive and it is due Thursday as well.  Remember it is 10 points, 5 points or 0 points.  NO LATE KEN KENS WILL BE ACCEPTED from here on!
Social Studies:   The February Passport test is Thursday, February 27th .  Our look at the Olympics is part of the students social studies grade for this quarter.
Reading:  The book report for this month is a game based on the book they read this month.   It is due on the 28th, but can be turned in whenever your student finishes a book this month. We will have game day on Monday!! The reading calendar is due EOM plus 2 days.
