Dear Parents,
You may have heard
that we are doing a unit of study about the Olympics! I had each student choose a country that will
be participating in the Olympics. Their homework
last week was to choose an athlete from their
country and identify the sport that they participate in. Students need to keep track of how well their
athlete does. We are doing research in the computer lab regarding some basic
information about each country. The
student will do a mini oral report about their country and will need to
identify where it is on the big world map that we have. We
will be doing a mini-Olympics here at school with the third grade. It will include fun athletic events like “Left
Handed Marble Grab”. There will be
Drama, Heartache, and Victory! Gold,
silver, and bronze medals will be awarded! It should be fun.
Homework:
Spelling: Lesson 19.
We will be looking at contractions this week. Test and workbook are due Friday as usual.
Math: Please continue to work with your student on
math facts. We are going on to test
division facts. If your student
still struggles with the multiplication facts, they will struggle with division
as well. Keep working on facts. Mastery of facts is so important that 25%
of their grade in math is math fact mastery. A Ken
Ken is included with this missive and it is due Friday as well.
Social Studies: The January Passport test is Thursday,
January 30. We filled in a map of the 13
original colonies today, we will practice here at school, but this is also
homework. The students need to fill
in the colony names, the postal code, and capital city on a blank map by
Wednesday , February 5th.
Reading: Earlier this month, I sent home information
about the book report that is due at the end of the month. It is due on the 31st but can be
turned in whenever your student finishes a book this month. The reading calendar is due EOM plus 2
